churchYour Methodist Heritage Choir Tour will be a great celebration of faith focused on the lives of two of the most influential people in the history of the Methodist Church. Your group will visit key historic places and sites of interest to the Methodist tradition. Experience distinct local lifestyles of church communities across England. Venue options include sacred places such as Victoria Methodist Church, Bishopston Methodist Church, Wesley Memorial Church, St. Paul’s Cathedral or St.-Martin-in-the Fields. Walk with us as we trace the growth of the Methodist church in England through in the Wesley tradition of sacred song.

12-Day Itinerary

Day 1 | Thursday | Depart for England

Day 2 | Friday | Arrive London | Salisbury | Avebury Stone Circle

Your journey begins with a drive west through Royal Berkshire and across the sweeping Salisbury Plain. Pass the mysterious prehistoric Stonehenge and visit the prehistoric Avebury Stone Circle on our way to Bristol.

Day 3 | Saturday | Bristol | Bath – Evening/Concert

Today’s orientation tour of Bristol includes John Wesley’s Chapel, the oldest Methodist Chapel in the world. Present a concert at the New Room in Bristol. Enjoy the balance of the day in the Gregorian City of Bath, on the River Avon. Visit Hanhan Mount, where in 1739 Wesley did field preaching.

Day 4 | Sunday | Sung Sunday Service | Blenheim Palace | Oxford

Sing Sunday service at Victoria Methodist Church, or Bishopston Methodist Church. Afternoon sites include: Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill; Oxford, known as the "City of Dreaming Spires;"and Lincoln College where John Wesley was elected a Fellow in 1726 and the headquarters of “the Holy Club”, and other places of Wesleyan connection.

Day 5 | Monday | Witney | Stratford

Travel across the beautiful the Cotswolds to visit Witney where Wesley preached in 1725, on Church Green, a picturesque common. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Stratford-upon-Avon, the hometown of William Shakespeare. You will have the option to enjoy (at an additional cost) an evening performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Day 6 | Tuesday | Coventry | West Bromwich | York

Today begins with a visit to Coventry and its famous Cathedral. Continue to West Bromwich to visit the home of Francis Asbury, American Methodism’s first Bishop. Your stay in York includes a visit to York Minster Cathedral with its stained-glass treasures.

Day 7 | Wednesday | Highlights of York – PM/Leisure

The highlight of your tour of York will be the magnificent Cathedral of St. Peter, one of the largest cathedrals in Britain. You will have the option to attend Evensong at York Minster.

Day 8 | Thursday | Gainsborough | Epworth

This morning, we head south, stopping in the historical hamlet of Scrooby. In Gainsborough, see the Old Hall, where John Wesley preached several times. Tour Epworth, the birthplace of John and Charles Wesley. Present a noon recital at Wesley Memorial Church. See the New Visitors Center, Old Rectory, St. Andrew’s Parish Church, and Wesley Memorial Church.

Day 9 | Friday | Cambridge | London

We leave for London stopping at Cambridge enroute. Meet your guide at the Silver Street bridge. Your walking tour will pass Peterhouse, Trinity College, Queens College, and include a visit to Kings College. Enjoy you evening at leisure upon arrival in London. You will have the option to see (at an additional cost) a West End Theatre Show.

Day 10 | Saturday | London Sightseeing | Leisure

Your morning tour of London includes all the major sights of the city; the House of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and the Mall, St. Paul's Cathedral. Present a noon recital at St. Paul’s Cathedral, St.-Martin-in-the Fields or a Methodist venue. Balance of the day at leisure.

Day 11 | Sunday | London Sightseeing - Leisure

Your morning begins with a visit to Aldersgate, the site of John Wesley’s conversion. Sing the Sunday Service at Wesley’s Chapel. Then visit Wesley’s gravesite and home. The afternoon is free to explore the city’s landmarks, museums and shops.

Day 12 | Monday | Return from London
